Ms. Kay graduated cum laude from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She then graduated cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law with a degree concentration in Race, Society, and the Legal System. Ms. Kay received the Book Award in both Trial Practice and Race Relations.
While in law school, Ms. Kay was a law clerk at the Public Defender’s Office and a Summer Associate at the United States Attorney’s Office in Tallahassee, Florida.
After law school, Ms. Kay moved to Washington D.C. While studying for the Bar Exam, she was a law clerk at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia and the Office of the Public Defender for Montgomery County Maryland.
Ms. Kay was an Assistant Public Defender in Montgomery County Maryland for five years where she handled misdemeanor and felony cases. She first practiced in the District Court where she had approximately 100 bench trials and then in the Circuit Court where she had approximately 20 jury trials. Ms. Kay was also the Assistant Public Defender for the Adult Drug Court Program.
Ms. Kay began practicing law in Florida in 2015. She has handled numerous misdemeanor and felony cases, both in state and Federal court; violation of probation hearings; and motion hearings.
